Reserves
There are 121 Shire reserves located within and vested with the Shire of Denmark. In addition, the State Government manages many other reserves and National Parks through the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.

What We Look After
Coastline Reserves
Our Shire boasts a coastline that covers 84 kilometres, much of which is managed by Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.
We look after four coastal reserves:
- Ocean Beach
- Parry Beach
- Boat Harbour
- Peaceful Bay
Coastal hazard risk management and adaptation planning is one of the integral aspects of decision-making for sustainable land use in and around coastal reserves.
Bushland and Foreshore Reserves
Of the 121 Shire-managed reserves located within our Shire, 41 are for community oriented services such as drainage, emergency services sites and communications.
The remaining 80 reserves have some degree of natural resource management input required in order to maintain biodiversity and environmental values.
The purposes of these 80 reserves range from conservation, public recreation, parkland management and resource extraction (gravel and sand). Of these,12 are classed as A-Class Reserves which secures a higher level of protection of the natural and/or community values.
We regularly undertake weed management, revegetation, fire mitigation and other activities in our reserves as part of our management programs.
Friends of Reserves Groups
In recognition of keen community members and organisations who undertake bush care activities in Shire reserves, the Shire promotes the creation and membership of Friends of Reserves Groups.
The Shire has developed a Friends of Reserves Strategy to assist these groups, ensuring they undertake their efforts safely and in keeping with the Shire's biodiversity (and biosecurity) objectives.
