News arrived recently of a successful grant application to deliver the first stage of the Berridge Park revitalisation project.
Following Council’s approval of the concept design at the February Ordinary Council meeting, news came from the State Government that an application to the Community Sporting and Recreation Facilities Fund had been successful, with $697,666 awarded to the Shire of Denmark for Stage One of the Berridge Park revitalisation.
The funding means work can get underway on the skatepark, multipurpose court and bouldering wall section of the Berridge Park concept plan in 2025, representing the first stage of delivering the broader concept for Berridge Park.
Further funding applications are pending for the other stages of the project, including the new multi-age playground and barbeque area at the heart of the park.
In the meantime, Shire officers will now get to work with designers on detailed designs and other preparations in advance of work boots hitting the ground in 2025.
Denmark Shire President Kingsley Gibson said it was exciting to have achieved funding support for this project so soon after the adoption of the concept plan.
“We’re really pleased to have secured funding for stage one of this project. We, and our community, know the merit and need for this, and we will work hard to demonstrate the merit of the remaining stages to other funding bodies,” Cr Gibson said.
“There’s a lot of work to do before construction begins, and we look forward to sharing more details about the project with our community in due course.”
