Residents successfully turned their stash of unwanted items into cash at the annual Garage Sale Trail last November, in a win for sustainability and waste reduction in the Shire of Denmark.
A recently compiled report on the 2023 local Garage Sale Trail event showed that more than 4415 locals participated as either shoppers or sellers at a total of 126 garage sales held in the area, with a total of 19,496 kilograms of reusable items saved from going to landfill.
The report showed that local interest in the Garage Sale Trail initiative and the circular economy message continues to grow, with the number of participants doubling on the previous year.
Denmark Shire President Kingsley Gibson said the annual Garage Sale Trail event is testament to our community’s commitment to reducing waste.
“It’s no surprise that the Garage Sale Trail event grows in popularity every year here in Denmark,” Cr Gibson said.
“Our community is embracing reusing, repurposing and supporting local, because it’s good for our planet and good for our local economy.”
“I look forward to seeing this trend continue in years ahead as waste reduction initiatives like Garage Sale Trail gather momentum.”
The annual Garage Sale Trail event occurs across Australia every November.
Community members keen to get involved with the 2024 event over two weekends on 9-10 & 16-17 November can now register their interest at www.garagesaletrail.com.au.
