Two Denmark schools are buzzing with science and story inspiration after a visit by Cristy Burne as part of the Denmark Public Library’s annual Children’s Book Week celebrations.
Cristy is a science writer and children’s author who has published numerous children’s books.
Cristy’s stories are inspired by science, technology and creativity, and are full of suspense, humour, wacky characters and real-life science heroes such as Fiona Wood, the inventor of spray-on skin.
Each year, during Children’s Book Week, the library celebrates Australian books, authors and illustrators, and a key part of this is a school visit enabling local children to meet an author.
This year, 112 children from Denmark Primary School and Kwoorabup Nature School were lucky enough to enjoy Cristy’s presentations, with high levels of engagement and participation from all the students.
Library Officer Nicola Shaw said Cristy is a dynamic inspirational speaker.
“All the students who participated in the presentations were wowed by her energy, ideas and science experiments,” Ms Shaw said.
“Cristy has a real skill of bringing to life story structure and narrative techniques using practical demonstrations and sharing her stories and experiences. It was a real treat to be able to host her in Denmark.”
Cristy’s visit to Denmark was hosted by the Denmark Public Library with sponsorship provided by The Children’s Book Council of Australia, Lotterywest, Healthway and Go for 2 & 5.
