In another step to demonstrate a commitment to respectful relationship building and Reconciliation between First Nations community members and the Shire of Denmark, Denmark Shire President Ceinwen Gearon is delighted to announce that the Shire of Denmark is now a member of Reconciliation WA.
Following the Shire’s October 2022 commitment to promote community awareness of the Uluru Statement from the Heart, this new membership is another milestone for Council.
“I am super excited and proud to be a part of a Council that recognises the importance of supporting the Statement and I believe that our community, already welcoming and inclusive, will embrace the opportunities that our membership of Reconciliation WA offers,” Cr Gearon said.
“The Uluru Statement from the Heart is a generous invitation from First Nations Australians to all Australians to walk together to achieve greater harmony, opportunities and connection to this land.”
“It will not be an easy journey as it will require us to recognise that our shared history has caused intergenerational harm to Aboriginal People. But we need to be truthful in the telling of that story.”
Reconciliation WA Member and Partner Manager Deanne Poole said Reconciliation WA welcomes the Shire of Denmark as a member.
“We look forward to being part of the Shire of Denmark’s reconciliation journey,” she said.
