The Denmark Chamber of Commerce will take the reins of the Denmark Visitor Centre (DVC) for the coming years following a decision by Council last night to commit to an in-principle three-year service agreement.
The commitment comes after a formal proposal was put forward to the Shire in July by Denmark Chamber of Commerce representatives outlining their vision for the DVC.
Development of the visitor servicing proposal at the DVC was informed by the draft Sustainable Tourism Strategy adopted at last night’s Council meeting.
The Denmark Chamber of Commerce proposal will represent the first action under the Shire’s fresh strategic direction of tourism support, leadership and advocacy.
Shire of Denmark Chief Executive Officer David Schober said Council was impressed by the hard work put in by Chamber representatives to put together a proposal which aligned with the Sustainable Tourism Strategy.
“Councillors said it was refreshing to deal with the Denmark Chamber on this issue and mentioned the impressive flexibility and consultation with key stakeholders with which the Chamber team had approached the process,” Mr Schober said.
“The Chamber have demonstrated their capacity to manage current levels of visitor demand at the Denmark Visitor Centre and we look forward to seeing what they will do to further activate the centre into a hub of activity.”
As part of the agreement, Council will allocate $95,000 to support the Denmark Chamber of Commerce to deliver tourism services including face-to-face visitor servicing.
The DVC is currently being staffed and managed by Denmark Chamber of Commerce utilising a committed volunteer workforce, with the new agreement set to reach Council in November.
