The Shire of Denmark has prepared a new draft Local Planning Strategy (2022) to guide how our community will grow and develop over the next 15 years.
The draft Strategy contains recommendations in relation to zoning, land use planning and development standards, establishing the foundation of a new Local Planning Scheme to replace the existing Town Planning Scheme No. 3 (1994).
The draft Strategy is intended to steer improvements in the local development approval process, making it more user-friendly for community members, developers, and Shire staff.
Once finalised and approved, the new Strategy will replace the 2011 version, taking into account current community sentiment, captured in vision setting engagement exercises during the preliminary consultation period which consisted of:
- Four ‘Conversation Cafe’ events in 2020 (two in Denmark, Nornalup, and Peaceful Bay)
- LPS Update and Key Issues Community Consultation event in 2021 (Denmark)
- Two online and hard copy surveys (Initial Preliminary Consultation 2020 and Key Issues 2021)
- General written submissions
The new Strategy also builds upon the details within the Shire’s recently reviewed Strategic Community Plan and Sustainability Strategy and Action Plan.
With the draft now complete, community members and stakeholders are invited to participate in a final consultation to read and provide feedback on the draft Strategy.
The draft Strategy can be accessed online and hardcopies are available for viewing at the Shire Administration Building and the Denmark Public Library.
The public comment period will remain open until Friday 22 December 2023.
Submissions can be returned to the Shire via the following means:
All feedback received will be considered when the draft Strategy is refined for final endorsement by Council and the Western Australian Planning Commission.
