The Shire of Denmark is all set to host a sundowner on Saturday 20 May to celebrate and thank all the volunteers of Denmark as part National Volunteer Week 2023.

The event will also feature the presentations for the Community Citizen of the Year and Sportsperson of the Year awards for the first time. The categories for the awards are as follows:

  • Community Citizen of the Year
  • Citizen of the Year (Senior) for a person over 65 years
  • Citizen of the Year (Youth) for a person under 25 years
  • Citizen of the Year (Group)
  • Junior Sportsperson of the Year
  • Senior Sportsperson of the Year

Community members are invited to attend to show Denmark’s volunteers how valued they are in our community.

Shire of Denmark CEO David Schober said volunteers are the life blood of the Denmark community.

“The volunteering spirit in our community is something that I think fills us all with pride,” Mr Schober said.

“From sports, to emergency services, to environmental initiatives, to community well-being – there is a volunteer or volunteering organisation behind almost every good thing in Denmark.”

“This annual celebration is an important time for us all to show our gratitude to those who donate their time, effort and energy to a cause, so we very much hope to see plenty of members of the community come along to show their support.”

This year, the theme for National Volunteer Week is ‘The Changemakers’, recognising that volunteers are change makers in our communities.

Denmark Riverside Club will be hosting the evening and will be the guest speaker for this year’s celebration, sharing their volunteering journey as a changemaker in Denmark, some of the highlights and barriers they’ve encountered along the way and how they overcame them.
